Howard University Offers Many Degree Paths for Communications Students

Previously a senior vice president at ESPN, Keith Clinkscales operates as the CEO of the sports news organization Shadow League Digital. In addition to producing ESPN documentaries, Keith Clinkscales serves on several boards, including the Advisory Board of the Howard University (HU) School of Communications.

In 2013, HU’s communications school established two distinct undergraduate departments: Media, Journalism, and Film (MJFC) and Strategic, Legal, and Management Communication (SLMC). Students in both undergraduate programs can major in journalism and online media, audio and TV production, public relations, advertising, or media management.

For those interested in pursuing their education beyond the undergraduate program, HU offers two doctoral programs: Communication, Culture, and Media Studies (CCMS) and Communication Science and Disorders (COSD). In addition to the traditional courses of study, HU recently introduced an Interdisciplinary Studies Program that allows students to design their own course of study. For instance, a student may choose to combine public relations and broadcast production classes or media management and advertising classes.
