A professional association for producers working in film, television, and new media, the PGA held its 11th annual Produced By Conference in June 2019 at Warner Bros Studios. The two-day event was attended by more than 1,000 participants, including actors Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito, and Mindy Kaling. The conference included panel discussions on topics such as emerging horror genre trends, the rising influence of podcasts, and inclusive and socially conscious content.
On the second day of the conference, director Ava DuVernay spoke about one of her recent projects, “When They See Us.” Audience members heard about the four years of meticulous research that went into DuVernay’s new documentary about the Central Park Five, five young men of color who were wrongly accused and prosecuted for a violent crime they did not commit.
Another highlight of the conference was the equal representation discussion, which emphasized the importance of highlighting the voices of traditionally marginalized people.
