Producers Guild of America Helps Predict an Oscar Win

A former ESPN producer, Keith Clinkscales serves as the CEO of Shadow League Digital sports news network. An award-winning producer who has won the Peabody Award twice, Keith Clinkscales is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA).

An association with global reach, PGA members consist of approximately 7,000 film, television, and new media producers worldwide. PGA voting members overlap considerably with those at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars. Considered to be one of the best predictors of an Academy Award win, the PGA awards are announced in January, before Oscar voting begins.

Films released in 2018 that were nominated for a 2019 PGA award include A Star Is Born, Roma, Black Panther, and Green Book, all of which also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Ultimately, Green Book won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, the top PGA producer’s award. Possibly due to its strong showing at the PGA awards, Green Book went on to win the Best Picture Oscar.
